  The name” Alabaster" is certainly Egyptian and has probably been taken from the city of Alabasteron, popular for its vases, candles, lamp, and amphorae made as perfume containers.
  Alabaster comes in two varieties: the oriental alabaster (calcium carbonate) and chalky alabaster (hydrated calcium sulphate).
